Advent 1 – The Invitation
Sunday, December 2
We invite you to come to worship this weekend as we start this season of Advent. These four weeks before Christmas are a time to prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ and the celebration of His birth. This weekend we will be reading the story of Mary and the angel Gabriel from Luke 1:26-36. We look forward to seeing you at worship.
Please read Luke 1:26-36
During this Christmas season, You invite us in to hear about Mary and the angel Gabriel’s conversation. Once Mary got over the initial shock of what Gabriel was telling her, she responded with a willing spirit. Even though Mary had questions, she responded with a yes. It wasn’t a timid yes—it was a firm and sure response. Help me Lord to do the same. When You invite me to do something, help me to say, “Yes, I am ready!”
Lord, during this season, we are waiting and anticipating Jesus’ birth. Sometimes it is hard to wait. I can be impatient, especially when it comes to waiting for Your reply to my prayers. Lord, I know You always answer prayers, but on your time table, not mine. Help me to use this time of waiting to act on what you have been inviting me to do. I will prepare and ready myself to have a willing spirit for whatever You will call me to do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
