Advent 3 – When Plans Change
Friday, December 21
In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.
For years my favorite quote was “everything happens for a reason” and I believed in God’s plan for my life until HIS plans didn’t line up with MY plans. Have you ever felt that way?
I like to plan, so when it came time for my husband and I to start a family I thought I had everything figured out and things would go according to my plan. Yet, for both of our kids, a year came and went filled with tears, tests, jealousy, anger, frustration, medical procedures and the battle for control as I thought, “this isn’t fair!” and “what else do I need to do?”
Finally, I realized that it wasn’t about what I wanted or what I could do. So, I “let go” and decided to align my desires and expectations with whatever God had planned. I prayed, “God, I get it, I will step aside and let you work. Help me trust that your plan is what’s best for us.” With both of our kids, the very next month after we “let go and let God” I conceived. Coincidence? I don’t think so. You see, God DID have a plan! He used this struggle to lead us closer to Him and used our story to help and encourage others for 10 years now! I don’t know how God determines our paths, but I do know that He works for our good in ALL things and it’s not our job to understand but it IS our job to trust Him.
Hindsight is 20/20 but for God, the future is crystal clear, filled with the promise that He will complete whatever it is He sets out to do through you. So, if it feels like your plans have collapsed or you don’t understand what path God is leading you down, please know that you can NOT mess up God’s plan for your life, you are not that powerful! So today, decide to “let go and let God” and align your plans with His because on the other side of our humble submission is God’s perfect planning!
