He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?
— Micah 6:8

High School Ministries

King of Kings offers a foundational learning experience that prepares our students not only for their Confirmation day when they stand up in front of the church and confirm their faith in Jesus, but beyond. From Pre-K through 12th Grade, we believe that all these years are an important part of our faith formation.

9th Grade at King of Kings is made up of 3 key parts: Connection Groups, Workshops, and a Retreat.

  • Connection Groups
9th Grade students meet primarily in small connection groups made up of their peers and a couple adult leaders. Connection groups offer deeper relationships and a more in-depth look at topics. These connection groups meet a few times each month, based on days and times that their schedules allow. Groups, with the help of their leaders, will choose from a small library of options including video and book studies.
  • Workshops
9th Grade students will sign up for TWO of the four workshop options offered during the year. Parents are expected to attend workshops with their students.Workshops are an opportunity for families to dig into faith experiences and conversations together and to help bring the conversation home.
  • Retreat
Students will also attend one of two weekend retreats offered during the year on the topic: What do I believe? The cost of the retreat is included in the registration fee.  Retreats offer a longer time frame to explore what we’ve learned about God and our faith, and give us the opportunity to get out of our comfort zones to meet new people, have fun, and think more deeply about what we believe.

Confirmation services at King of Kings take place on the last Saturday/Sunday in October:

  • October 29/30, 2016
  • October 28/29, 2017
  • October 27/28, 2018
  • October 26/27, 2019
Sunday night Refuel gives students in 9th-12th grade the opportunity to connect with other high school students and expand their understanding of the Word and grow in their faith as they navigate their high school years. Sunday nights have a welcoming and fun atmosphere and all high school students are invited to come hang out with friends and be a part of our faith community. Sunday Night Refuel meets in the Youth Room on Sunday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. year round.
In order to celebrate and honor this major milestone in both faith and academic spheres, we host a Senior Celebration Dinner for graduating students and their families. The 2018 Senior Celebration Dinner will be held on March 11. Additional details will be sent to families in January 2018. Baccalaureate Services will be held the weekend of May 19 & 20.
As students are preparing for the changes that come with life after high school, we also challenge them to start thinking about and preparing for what all of these changes mean for their faith. Using the Sticky Faith Teen Curriculum, we spend 10+ weeks meeting together during the year to share in our excitement, worries, and faith, so that we can be better equipped to carry faith with us into life after high school.

  • Current Group: Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Kelsey’s house.
High Schoolers are invited to join us on December 17 for some Christmas themed games, treats & cocoa, and a wrapped white elephant gift exchange—wear your ugliest sweater, come and sing a few carols, and be festive with us! 9th grade Connection Groups and leaders are invited to join us for the celebration as well.
9th-12th grade students are invited to help hand out Shoeboxes of Love and serve at the Salvation Army in downtown St. Paul on December 22. Registration will open in December, and spaces are limited. Adult leaders will be needed to assist with transportation and to serve alongside students. Peer Ministry equips students and adults with the skills to care for, welcome, and affirm the people around them, every day and in every relationship. It’s an amazing opportunity to help you know what to say when a friend is facing a difficult issue, or how to step up and meet someone new. We are hosting training on January 6 and January 7. Participants should be available for both days of training and willing to participate on the High School Leadership Team following training. For more information and to sign up, please contact Kelsey Battleson at kelsey.battleson@kingofkingswoodbury.org
Join us on Saturday, January 20 as we break out the glow sticks and play some games! Join us for favorites like Extreme Spoons and Humans vs. Zombies, and learn some new games throughout the night as well. Registration will be online or contact Kelsey at kelsey.battleson@kingofkingswoodbury.org for more information or to sign up.
Along with leadership opportunities in Children’s and Middle School Ministry, High school leaders are invited to participate year round in the following ways:
