Our Confirmation program provides opportunities for middle school students to begin to take ownership of their faith, preparing them to make the promises of baptism their own. Forming a faith community of peers and adults is an important step in a student’s faith journey.
Through Middle School Confirmation programming, your child will take a deeper dive into basic tenets of our Lutheran faith while engaging in small group discussions and parent/student activities. We focus on the Small Catechism (10 Commandments, Lord’s Prayer and Apostles’ Creed), Martin Luther, prayer, and the Bible. Confirmation is an important time for students to develop meaningful relationships with fellow classmates, small group leaders, and mentoring adults in our congregation.
We strive to create a community where all of God’s children are welcomed and included – a place where students can grow in their faith and create long lasting friendships. We invite YOU to join us!
Classes: Wednesday’s at 6:15 p.m.
6th Grade: Laying the foundation
This is the foundational year where students are asking “What does it mean to be Lutheran?” We spend time learning about the small catechism (10 commandments, Lord’s Prayer and Apostle’s Creed), Martin Luther, Prayer and the bible. We also start to build and develop deep relationships with fellow classmates and other invested adults in our congregation.
7th and 8th Grade: Digging Deeper
We spend these two years taking a deep dive into learning how to apply your faith to your life, where students ask “What does it mean to me?” We continue to develop relationships, and learn about connections and making new friends, Jesus’ life, faith and culture. We also take time to take a longer, deeper look at a character or sections from the Old and New Testaments.
Preparing for Confirmation
Expressing Your Faith
On the road to Confirmation, we help students learn to express and articulate their faith through various ways like service, art, words, and prayer. Each student is asked to put together a project that expresses their unique faith in preparation for confirmation. During 9th grade, students will:
9th Grade Confirmation Services
Confirmation services at King of Kings take place on the last Saturday/Sunday in October in the fall of 9th & 10th grade.
Confirmation Conversations
Confirmation Conversations happen during the summer between 8th and 9th grade when students have the opportunity in a one-on-one or group setting to share about their experience in confirmation and have a deeper conversation about their faith. These conversations are also a chance to learn more about High School ministries at King of Kings and ask questions about confirmation services and how to plug into the congregation.
Each student is also asked to choose a confirmation verse that is meaningful and speaks to them to share during their confirmation conversation and display during the confirmation services.
Stole Making Party
Students are expected to make a stole with their name, and are encouraged to reflect their life’s passions and story of faith through images and symbols on their stoles. A cutting template and suggestions are sent to families in the fall of 9th grade, and stole making kits are available on loan. Stoles are available at the stole making party or any time. Please click here to register. Contact Michael for additional information.
Confirmation Rehearsal
Confirmation Rehearsal is an opportunity for families and students to walk through the confirmation service, have formal photos taken, and spend time together. It’s also an opportunity to ask any last-minute questions families might have.
Student Requirements
6th grade – 10 worship notes, 10 service experiences and 1 lock-in
7th grade – 10 worship notes, 10 service experiences and 1 retreat (Nov. 15-16, 2025 or Feb 28-Mar.1, 2026)
8th grade – 10 worship notes, 10 service experiences and 1 retreat (Nov. 15-16, 2025 or Feb 28-Mar 1, 2026)
What are worship notes? Worship notes help a student think about how they respond to worship, what questions they have about the service and what they’d like to know more about. The preaching pastor reviews completed worship notes to respond to questions about that Sunday’s message.
What are service experiences? Jesus calls us to serve others in our community. We live this out by volunteering on our own or with our families, as well as helping at King of Kings. There are MANY opportunities offered throughout the year in Children, Student and Family Ministry, worship and community outreach.
Why retreats and lock-ins? Both give us an opportunity to really dive deep into one topic and give us the space to expand the conversation and take it to another level. Retreats and lock-ins also give us the ability to laugh and play together for an extended amount of time – which translates to deeper connections with each other.

Fellowship Events
We believe that our lives are enriched by spending time together in community. One way that we live that out is through frequent fellowship events, where we have time to play together, laugh together, and grow together in faith. These events range from playing games (Romans & Christians is very popular!), movie nights, hanging out around a bonfire eating s’mores, or participating in a St. Paul area event for Confirmation students.
Serving
Jesus calls us to serve others. We live this out by going out into the community and serving together. You will often see us at Feed My Starving Children, making tie blankets for the Linus Project, collecting food for Minnesota March Foodshare, and serving throughout the area during our weeklong Serve Camp each August.
Camp
One of the many places we can experience God is in the outdoors, and there is no better place to do that than at camp! King of Kings is a partner congregation of Lake Wapogasset Bible Camp (Camp Wapo) in Amery, WI. Camp Wapo is also the site for our Confirmation retreats. All middle school students are invited to come spend a week doing Bible studies, playing games, swimming and having a ton of fun together at camp. Camp is a transformative place, and we encourage all of our middle school students to come spend a week at camp at least once! Fundraising opportunities are available.
FAQ
How do I sign my student up for an event? Use the Registration page on the website. Registration links are also included in parent emails.
Can friends come to events? Always! We just ask that a current medical form be on file in the office. If you have questions, just ask Michael!
Are scholarships available? Yes! We NEVER want the cost of an event to be prohibitive. If there is a need, please reach out to Michael. Fundraising is available for summer camp at Camp Wapo and Middle School mission trips.
Do you ever need help from parents for events? ALWAYS! We always need parents and adults to help chaperone and facilitate events. Parents and adults should have a current background check on file. If you would like to help out with the life of Middle School Ministry, please contact Michael.
Faith milestones seek to carry out the baptismal promises that are made when each student is baptized and to provide tools to incorporate faith into the daily life of their family. Important faith concepts are taught through parent/student workshops, retreats, worship experiences, and classroom lessons.
