A Joyful Reunion in Kilolo: A Living Partnership in Christ

King of Kings and our partner parish in Kilolo have shared a meaningful and growing relationship over the past eight years. Built on letters, video calls, and prayer, this partnership has deepened over time. This summer, we were thrilled to finally meet our brothers and sisters in person.

Our arrival in Kilolo was met with an outpouring of joy and celebration. We were welcomed with a parade through town—motorcycles and bicycles escorting us as branches waved and horns blared. As we approached the church, the celebration grew: singing, dancing, and the rhythmic beat of drums filled the air, embracing us in a warm and festive welcome.

Over the next three days, the two congregations came together in worship, shared meals, and even planted avocado trees—symbols of growth and shared purpose. During Sunday worship, the service was translated between English and Swahili, a beautiful reflection of the cultural bridge being built. Bob Bowman delivered a message using the same Scripture as “King of Kings” back home, reminding us to build our lives on the rock that is Jesus Christ.

As part of the service, we exchanged gifts. King of Kings presented Kilolo with five Bibles translated into the Hehe language. In return, we received vibrant African fabric, and our handmade blessing cards—each with a photo and prayer—were distributed. Members of the congregation gathered around, eager to receive a card from a brother or sister in Christ.

Next stop!!!— Preaching points, where we were again welcomed with amazing music, incredible dancing, and joyful praise. We sang, danced (as best we could), and worshipped God together. As one of us reflected, “The unity of spirit was palpable, even when words sometimes failed.”

A bit of jet lagged sleep was followed by a scenic two-hour gravel road drive to the Ipalamwa Secondary School (ages 13-18), where King of Kings sponsors scholarships for 15 students. Meeting the students was a powerful and emotional moment. They expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to study, and we witnessed the school’s commitment to improving lives and educational opportunities, as evidenced by the construction of a new science classroom.

Throughout our visit, we shared meals and fellowship with the pastors and leaders of Kilolo parish. We swapped photos of Minnesota winters, our church, and our families. The room overflowed with laughter, warmth, and a sense of connection. These conversations also allowed us to hear about the parish’s challenges. The leaders shared a thoughtful list of priorities for us to bring back to King of Kings.

This visit was more than a cultural exchange—it was a living testimony of God’s love, uniting people from across the globe in faith, hope, and encouragement. What began as letters and prayers has grown into a shared story, a shared future, and a shared calling. The partnership between Kilolo Parish and King of Kings remains alive, rooted in Christ.
