What It Is
Every first Thursday of the month, our doors open for Community Dinners. Everyone is invited, whether you’ve been coming to King of Kings for years or you’ve never set foot in our building before.
We’ve been hosting these dinners for over two years now, and they’re simple: a hot meal, craft tables for the kids (and the kids-at-heart), and a few service projects for families to dig into together. You might even be greeted by Fully the Frog, our mascot, who’s a fun reminder to fully rely on God. No cost or expectation that you’re “checking out the church.” Just come!
What to Expect
- A real, hot meal: Some of what we serve is food rescued from a local university dining hall and food donated by area grocery stores — good food that’s finding a good home.
- A themed craft station: The theme changes monthly, so there’s always something new to make.
- Table conversation cards: A simple discussion question at each table helps people actually talk to one another, not just eat side by side.
- Simple service projects: They’re easy to jump right into if you want to give back.
- A quick prayer of thanks: Before the meal, we take a small moment to pause together.
- Zero cost: This one’s genuinely free for anyone in the community, no exclusions.
Why We Do This
We started Food with Friends because we believe some of the best things happen around a table. It’s a night to slow down, share a meal, and meet the people who live right around the corner from you. Whether you’re catching up with old friends or making new ones, this is a place built for connection, no strings attached.
Even the meal itself reflects that spirit: Much of what we serve is food that would otherwise go to waste. It’s rescued from a local university dining hall or donated by area grocery stores, put to good use around a shared table instead.
Serving
If you’d like to volunteer at one of these events, we can always use a hand setting tables, serving food, washing dishes, helping with the Community Craft Wall, or leading kids activities. Email pam.hoeffel@kingofkingswoodbury.org if you’re interested.
