We live in a busy age. Between work, family obligations, and distractions like social media, it can feel harder than ever to carve out time to connect with God. It’s no surprise that many Christians feel a deep longing for more spiritual connection and quiet in their lives. Just a few minutes of Bible study per day can go a long way towards nourishing your soul and drawing you closer to God.

In this blog, we’ll walk you through some simple strategies on how to read the Bible every day. And, when you’re ready to dedicate more time to your spiritual relationship, don’t forget that you’re always welcome to worship here at King of Kings Lutheran church!

FINDING TIME: EASY WAYS TO MAKE SPACE FOR GOD

Morning Coffee

Instead of starting your day by scrolling social media or stressing over the news, why not take a few moments to connect with God instead? Choose a Bible verse to read and reflect on. The morning is the perfect time to consciously consider how you can carry Jesus’ teachings throughout your day.

Daily Commute

Skip the radio or podcast; try listening to the Bible or even a sermon instead! No matter your driving time, it’s an excellent opportunity to multitask and add some additional Bible study into your day.

Lunch Break

Lunchtime is great for spending time with God while you take a break from work, school, etc. Take a moment to review the daily devotional through your favorite Bible app. These devotionals include a verse to meditate on, a short message for application, and a prayer. You can also start a daily Bible plan to invite God into each day.

Prayers Before Meetings or Class

Don’t stress before a big work meeting or a tough test in class. Instead, channel your energy into reading an inspiring verse or spending a few minutes in prayer to center yourself and remember not to sweat the small stuff.

Evening Walk

Whether you like hitting the pavement to walk your dog or just get some exercise in, don’t pass up this opportunity to talk with God. While listening to the Bible on audiobook or a Scripture-focused podcast, stay present and take a moment to seek God—thank Him for the day, and ask Him to reveal the areas where He is working in your life.

Prepping Dinner

Especially when you’re cooking one of your tried-and-true family dinners, it can be easy to go into autopilot mode and let your mind wander. Reclaim that headspace by slipping in some time to read the Bible between timers. Don’t forget that the moments before digging into dinner can be a powerful time to read a passage or say a prayer as a family, too.

Before Bed

Some people relax before bed by tucking in with a book. To relax your mind and body and nourish your soul, opt for a book of Scripture or other Christian reading material. Even if you feel like you don’t have time to read, a few minutes a day can make all the difference—especially if you reach for it instead of your phone.

Gratitude Journaling

Whether it’s first thing in the morning or last thing at night, many people find gratitude journaling a grounding experience. Reading a verse about gratitude and reflecting on the abundance God has blessed you with is a powerful way to boost positivity.

WHY DAILY BIBLE READING MATTERS

The Bible is spiritual food; it’s essential for a thriving Christian life. Many Christians find that reading the Bible every day leads to a renewed mindset, a firmer faith foundation, and peace amid the chaos of modern life. Just like exercising or eating well, Bible study is a daily habit that, over time, creates a strong, healthy spiritual life.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I READ DAILY?

Reading the Bible every day doesn’t have to feel like a burden. After all, it’s not about quantity but about consistency for the purpose of deepening your relationship with God. Some Christians may only have time for a few verses, while others prefer to read a chapter a day.

And, don’t forget to prioritize grace over guilt; if you miss a day, that’s okay! Whether 5 minutes, 20 minutes, or an hour, no time is too short for learning more about the One who writes your story.

TOOLS & RESOURCES TO STAY CONSISTENT

For many people, carrying around a Bible isn’t a practical option. But in the modern age, there are plenty of alternative options that make connecting with God convenient and accessible.

Apps

Many Bible apps contain not just the entire Bible, but also offer daily reading plans, a friends feature to keep you accountable, and audio versions of scripture, devotionals, and more. Some of the most popular apps include the YouVersion Bible App, Dwell, and the ESV Bible App.

Podcasts

While there are many podcasts available specifically for Christians, some of our parishioners may not know that King of Kings has a podcast of our own. Sunday Sermons by King of Kings Lutheran Church is available on Apple Podcasts and is updated weekly with our most recent sermons. Listen to it in place of the radio or your music streaming platform to easily add more worship into your day.

Online Sermons

At King of Kings, we upload videos of our services online, in addition to livestreaming on Sundays, so that all can stay connected. Visit our Online Worship page for more information on accessing King of Kings services online.

Small Groups

Connecting with fellow Christians can encourage you to stay consistent in your daily spiritual practices. King of Kings offers a variety of adult small groups, ranging from gender-based ministries to groups based on age or interests. We invite you to browse and visit the group that feels right for you.

GRACE-FILLED PROGRESS OVER PERFECTION

If reading the Bible every day feels overwhelming, don’t stress. With the right mindset and tools, it’s simple to fit the daily practice into your schedule. Even just one verse, or 5 minutes, can be enough to nourish your soul and strengthen your relationship with the Lord. God honors every effort, no matter how small.
